Funky Fools musical journey started in 2013 when founder and lead singer Christian Kratzsch wanted to express his love and passion for James Brown’s music. The band started off with a select group of musicians with Indonesian and Moluccan roots who shared the same love for funk and soul music. With only the guitar, bass, drums and vocals the band tried to lay down the old-school jungle grooves that made James Brown one of a kind.
After two try-out gigs the band Funky Fools received a lot of positive reactions and the band realized that there is no band, in Holland, who bring an ode to James Brown like they do. Throughout the year Funky Fools spend lots of time in the rehearsal studio and did small gigs. With a lot of upcoming gigs the band felt the urge to expand and find the right group of musicians. On their search to the authentic James Brown sound they added new instruments to the band such as horns, keys, percussion, an extra guitarist and backing vocalists. This is how Funky Fools quickly expanded from a 4-man to a 12-man formation.
Throughout the year Funky Fools played on many different sized stages like small living rooms and festivals like Delft Jazz, but as highlight of there shows, so far, they played as the support act for Al McKay’s Earth Wind and Fire Experience in the Hertme open air theatre.
Funky Fools a hard working band with a passion for James Brown’s music, but they also have another desire. With the knowledge and experience that they are gaining, Funky Fools want to write their own funk and soul music in the future.
Funky Fools’ musical journey started in October 2013.
One year later the band turned into a successful funk machine which doesn’t know where their musical journey will end…
